Armed forces personnel to take key roles in classrooms.

More than 110 former soldiers, sailors and air personnel will be offered careers worth around £32,000 a year to retrain as tertiary school instructors in so-called STEM subjects - sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Last night the Education and Training Foundation, a Government-funded body tasked with overseeing the project, said the prospect of members of the Armed Forces in classrooms would attract teenagers to those colleges who employ them.

Engineers, mechanics, signals and computer experts from the Army, Royal Navy and RAF will be in particularly high demand.
