Governing bodies criticised by Ofsted.

Governing bodies that devote too much time to "marginal issues", including "dinner menus, peeling paintwork and school uniform", are failing to properly hold heads to account, the head of Ofsted has warned.

According to figures published by the education watchdog, in the last year alone, school inspectors highlighted nearly 500 schools that required an "urgent review" into the performance of the governing body.
