Snow causes major disruption to schools.

Schools are facing the most widespread disruption “in a generation” due to snow, a head teachers’ union has warned.

Geoff Barton, general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL), said that the extreme weather conditions mean that children’s education across the country has been interrupted.

“There are huge swathes of the country where it was a no brainer that schools are closing – where there are traffic advisories that no one should travel,” he said.

“Whether your school is in Scotland, Kent, Wales or East Anglia, you are affected. This is more widespread than we have seen in a generation”.

Over a thousand schools were forced to close on Thursday, including more than 125 in North Yorkshire and more than 330 across Kent, giving thousands of children a second snow day.
